Details for "Petro-Tech: Competency Development - A Career Imperative and Not Just the Latest HR Idea"

The development of professional personnel in a cost-effective and timely manner is essential to business success in the global Oil and Gas industry. Developing the skills (competencies) of individuals is the key to a successful workforce and a successful business; this requires the adoption of appropriate personnel development planning.

The basic requirement therefore is a process for identifying and defining in a quantifiable way the competencies required by an individual in order to perform the job-related tasks. Competency can refer to Knowledge, Skill and Attitude, all of which can be part of the overall task performance: knowing what to do (knowledge), being able to do it (skill) and understanding the need for application of the skill (attitude).

The big question is – “how do you make such a system practical, sustainable and valid”.

Speaker Ken Delve

Ken Delve is Manager of Competency Consulting for PetroSkills, and has extensive experience in the development and implementation of competency-based training solutions, from Analysis and determination of competency matrices, to design of training courses and validation of training.

He is an expert in the writing and production of training materials, from reference manuals to course training aids, as well as the design of courses using analysis of Training Objectives (competency matrix), method and media analysis, writing of lesson plans, syllabi, programmes, assessment plans, and all course admin and support material.
