The SPE Gulf Coast Section Emerging Engineers Conference (EEC) is an annual conference designed specifically for young professionals to provide a forum to explore topics that will shape and develop their careers. EEC will feature technical and soft skills presentations, panel discussions, poster competition, and networking events. This year the EEC will take place at ExxonMobil Campus in North Houston, on June 23, 2016. The theme this year is ‘Asset Management 2.0 – Driving Operational Efficiency in Challenging Environments’ and our keynote speaker is Vicki Hollub (President & CEO, Occidental Petroleum Corp.). The lectures and panel sessions will focus on actions YPs can take to drive innovation and efficiency in operations and asset management strategies, providing essential tools for career development of young engineers. We expect to host about 200 attendees and 15 speakers at this event.

Asset Management: Key factors for improving efficiencies in mature and newly planned assets

Oil and gas companies thrive to create and improve systematic processes to appraise, develop, operate, and ultimately abandon assets cost-effectively. As global market dynamics, geopolitical forces, and volatile commodity prices continuously challenge the industry, successful organizations quickly adapt to new environments by leveraging key resources: people, technology, and assets. This panel session will focus on the key factors that drive efficiencies of asset management strategies for both, mature and newly planned assets, highlighting the role to be played by young engineers to take our industry to new heights. Addressing this enormous challenge requires YPs to rapidly develop the necessary skills that take into consideration the energy outlook today and that expected in the future, aiming to increase overall return over investments for all types of assets. This panel will have experts from the all the three major domains – drilling, reservoir as well as completion/production for a wellrounded discussion on this subject.

YPs in Oil & Gas: Steering your career path amid the industry’s crests and troughs

How would you describe yourself or your role as a young professional in the oil and gas industry? High levels of motivation and drive, accountability, efficiency, ingenuity, and resilience, certainly tend to resonate with most of the YPs. However, career paths of any two individuals in our industry are seldom similar, more so in the case of young engineers as they encounter cross roads in both, their professional and personal lives.

Join this panel session to explore the career progressions of highly experienced and recognized panelists, who have identified opportunities in challenging environments in the past and have succeeded in their endeavors in the industry. Discussions will highlight several aspects including professional development, opportunities for innovation, and the path to entrepreneurship in oil and gas.
